Dear Glen Allen High School Students and Families,
We are excited to announce our reimagined student parking plan for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year at Glen Allen High School! Our primary goals with this new plan are to optimize student and commuter safety, encourage strong attendance and early arrival to school, allow for more fairness within our system, and reduce traffic congestion while allowing for easier administrative efficiency. Parking on campus is a special privilege for our student drivers, and we are committed to making this process as smooth, equitable, and beneficial as possible.
New Policy Highlights:
1. No Parking Fees: In alignment with Henrico County Public Schools' new policy, we will no longer charge for parking spaces.
2. Limited Availability: We have a limited number of parking spaces available. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate every eligible senior and junior. Decals will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis. Fortunately, we were able to free up an additional 60+ spaces for the 24-25 school year!
3. Restrictions for Underclassmen: Sophomores and Freshmen are NOT permitted to drive to or park at GAHS.
4. First-Come, First-Serve Parking: Spaces are not assigned by number. This system encourages students to arrive early for the best spots, promoting punctuality and reducing tardiness and chronic absenteeism. This plan will allow us to better utilize all spaces in our parking lot. We understand students with late arrival may not have their preferred parking; however, they still have the privilege of student parking alongside the additional privilege of late arrival.
5. Disciplinary Consequences & Enforcement: School Security Officers will ticket cars parked in non-student spaces, particularly in visitor spaces and staff spaces (we are awaiting a date from the County when specific spaces will be painted). Any student parking without a decal will face escalating disciplinary actions. Failure to pay parking fines will also result in graduation tickets being withheld until all fines are paid, similar to other outstanding fees for seniors.
A) Infraction #1: $5 fine and administrative discussion
B) Infraction #2: $10 fine and removal of parking privileges for 1 month
C) Infraction #3: $15 fine and removal of parking privileges for the rest of the year
D) Infraction #4: $20 fine and ISS alongside an in-person parent meeting(could result in losing extracurricular privileges)
E) Infraction #5: Car towed at family's expense and ISS/OSS assigned alongside parent meeting 6. Temporary Parking: If students need to switch vehicles temporarily, they can fill out a special Google form to receive a temporary sticker, which must be returned after use.
7. Premium Spaces: Certain premium spaces will be designated for our Class of 2025 Senior Class Officers, Students of the Month (junior and seniors only), the Student-Athlete of the Month, and students recognized for strong attendance through our PBIS RewardsProgram. This will begin in October.
Note: Sign-Up Process for Newly Licensed Drivers: Juniors and seniors who do not yet have their driver's licenses can still reserve a space. Upon signing up, students must complete a Google form and submit a signed parking pass application during the first week of school. Students must earn their license prior to March of 2025 to be eligible to reserve a space.
Important Dates:
• Priority for Seniors: To honor their seniority, parking decals for Seniors will be allocated starting
Monday, July 29th at 9 AM using an online Google Form that will be shared via Schoology and ParentSquare. This priority allows seniors a better chance to secure a space. • Junior Allocation: Juniors can apply for their parking decals starting Thursday, August 1st at 9 AM.
à Juniors who apply prior to August 1st will be eliminated from registering for a space altogether.
• Decal Distribution: Decals will be handed out on Thursday, August 22nd, and Friday, August 23rd during all lunch periods. You must submit the VDOE Student Parking Pass Application in order to receive it. • Parking Enforcement Start Date: We will start ticketing cars without decals on Monday, August 26th.
Failure to submit a VDOE Student Parking Pass Application (via paper) will result in no decal being issued. There is no need to submit the VDOE form on PowerSchool. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we implement these changes to enhance the parking experience at Glen Allen High School. We look forward to a safe and successful school year ahead!
