Principal’s Message

August 22, 2021

Greetings Jaguar Families,

On behalf of the faculty and staff of Glen Allen High School, it is my honor and privilege to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year.  As a learning community, we are happy that you are joining us as we embark on an exciting year of teaching and learning at Glen Allen High School.  To the Freshman Class (Class of 2025), we welcome you to the “One Team, One Heartbeat, One Family” culture.  We look forward to seeing you grow academically and personally over the next 4 years.

After a year of operating in a virtual environment at the beginning of the 20-21 school year and transitioning to a parallel-hybrid virtual platform during second semester, we are excited to return to the traditional five days of in-person instruction in schools.  In accordance to this return, we support the safe return to in-person learning and continuity of services set forth by the HCPS School Board.  Due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to implement mitigation measures as established by HCPS.  This includes the requirement for all students to wear masks correctly while on school grounds (indoors, outdoors, school buses, etc.), signage that promotes regular handwashing, and access to hand sanitizer in classrooms, offices, and lunchrooms.  Staff and visitors will continue to follow this safety recommendation established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Information and updates regarding the return of in-person learning are located on the HCPS website (https://henricoschools.us) under the “Back to School 2021-22” headline.

The 2021-22 school year marks twelve years of existence for the Glen Allen High School community, and over the past eleven years, I have witnessed and experienced many great things with our students, faculty, and families.  Our students have performed at high levels of achievement both inside and outside the classrooms, even during a pandemic.  GAHS continues to be a place where we “create a space in culture and kindness.”  This leads us to our new theme for the 21-22 school year at Glen Allen High School – “GAHS … Where MAGIC Happens.”  Magic happens here as we renew our commitment to excellence in all that we do, as we seek to provide world-class instruction where all students are engaged and valued as active participants in their learning.  We are also committed to building relationships with students and families, and we will continue to provide students opportunities that prepare them for the work force, college, and the military.  Furthermore, we look forward to partnering with our stakeholders to positively impact student performance in all content areas and in their overall academic growth and development.

I am excited about the MAGIC here at GAHS and what the new year has to offer.  I look forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure that our students receive the best educational experience possible to be creative and critical thinkers and collaborators, effective communicators, and responsible citizens in a global society.  The faculty and staff of Glen Allen High School stand behind its vision of providing a safe and engaging educational environment where all students are inspired to be their best selves and empowered to create a better tomorrow.”  I encourage you to become an active member of this learning community and support this vision and our students.

I look forward to building relationships with all invested partners and to engaging you in this important work. I encourage you to become involved with the PTSA, Jaguar Athletic Association (JAA), and other booster organizations.  It is going to be an exciting year at Glen Allen High School!

Respectfully,

Reginald V. Davenport, Ed.S.
